My way is simpler and gets to the root of the problem.
I simply report (if it's something obnoxious) or (as irrelevant) hide every single ad, and with hide you also tell it you never want to see ads from that page again.
For every ad.
As I say, it takes a while but eventually it can't find anything to show you. No ads.
Every now and again it makes a half-hearted effort to show something and you just refuse them too and it gives up again.
I haven't seen an FB ad in the main feed in months. (And I don't even see the ones on the side.)
