There's degrees in which politicians do it. You expect some level of bullshit from every one of them, but with the better politicians, it's usually an overoptimistic expectation of results, and some airbrushing of potential problems. Make it all shine a little bit.
The current regime is pure nonsense, and you can't compare that to "normal". The press is complicit. Some maybe because access requires it, but I think a large portion is because it benefits them in some way.
