The statement about being the first monarch to Mexico is inaccurate. I believe what was trying to be conveyed is that this is the first monarch documented to migrate from Utah (the western migration summer breeding ground) into Mexico (the eastern migration wintering site). The Rocky Mountains were long believed to limit monarch migration from the east becoming a western monarch and vise versa. This has now be proven an inaccurate model of the migration.
