The immigrant transition:
In the early 20th century, a lot of European peasants and urban poor showed up at Ellis Island who were short and wiry and sort of light-boned... and proceeded to father sons who grew up 6 feet tall and heavier boned. (It was kind of like Steve Rogers/Captain America, but generational). There's a metabolic development path that gets switched depending on protein (and maybe calcium?) intake during one phase of early childhood.
