Parents/doctors may decide a child born with non-standard genitals should have their body irreparably modified even when there is no medical need.
This can cause a lifetime of pain & medical trauma. It often comes with a lot of confusion as well because the parents keep the child in the dark about their intersex condition. They don't think their child deserves to know & understand their own body.
