There’s no one path toward social transformation, but all of those routes must, I’d contend, be paved with care and solidarity. For as noted by others before me, “We build the road as we travel.”
Books are one of those essentials to toss into our rebellious “backpack” on this lifelong (multigenerational long) journey. Their ideas, along with the sustenance they offer, visions they hold out, and practices they inspire, can aid in changing the world. Yet they can also be carriers of ongoing succor—reminding us that we travel side by side, across and beyond borders.
I’m proud that all of my books are done as “labors of love,” part and parcel of my anarchist ethics put into direct action of the prefiguration kind, in small ways modeling the social relations we desire, embodied in the here and now. Our books can be our bricks—stories that shatter the narrative of the dominant social order and open up windows onto other lifeways. In my edited anthology “Constellations of Care: Anarcha-Feminism in Practice” (@plutopress, with cover design by @eff_charm), the many personal and communal tales within it share the messy beautiful lived experiences of anarcha-feminist projects in varied time+spaces+geographies. They show what’s possible, including in this fascist present. Those tales can, I trust, journey from the storytellers into your heart, and by picking up a copy of “Constellations of Care,” you also aid other anarcha-feminist projects in their ongoing efforts. Because all the “royalties” from this book—like all of my other books—are gifted to anarchist projects.
I’m delighted to announce that this round of proceeds was gifted to Solidarity Apothecary (nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyd968gmewwp6kytcqyqyu5nvyrg5r4jgk7065v9jv6a7d86535v3953pf5psfs3nx2x287qv05l9 (nprofile…05l9); https://solidarityapothecary.org). Please check out their good works, including their latest, No Borders Herbals, “a self-organised project of grassroots herbalists and organisers distributing herbal medicine packs to people on the move along the Balkan route. Rooted in mutual aid and solidarity, the project supports people facing border violence and denied access to healthcare.”
May our rebellious words and deeds bring down all borders, with love, care, and solidarity.
