I didn't grow up exactly like that, but my experience was largely positive with regard to gender nonconformity. I think for me it was just that I didn't know that one could be trans. Or rather, that "normal" people could be trans. It was the sort of thing you saw on daytime talk shows. My parents were totally fine with any sort of gender nonconformity, but there's an ocean of difference between that and being a different gender. I think they would have been okay with that too, but they had less framework to deal with it. They've been nothing but supportive but it wasn't on their radar. It wasn't really on mine either.

So yeah, being allowed to experiment doesn't mean there's no trauma, absolutely. I'm sorry you've got trauma to deal with ♥️
