Yes, I can too (& it costs taxpayers less), although there are good homes around, & some people are happy in them.

I would also like it if the new facilities popping up could be designed in such a way that they could easily & cheaply be converted into housing of various types, including some for more independent oldies who merely need supported living. Once a lot of boomers are gone, the demand for aged care will drop somewhat. (And maybe that’s what the government is banking on, although everything seems to indicate that short term penny pinching results in higher costs long term.)

And maybe a portion of people’s super could be quarantined for aged care? Once it hits a certain level? I haven’t thought this through, and know it would be controversial.
