Having done so much travel in East and South East Asia, I noticed everyone had this appliance. It’s ubiquitous like an electric kettle in the UK. I had to buy one, and I’ve loved it ever since.
There’s something borderline philosophical about it and the fact it can make food for a family with minimal electrical energy and no effort. Bring friends and family together and care for them.
In a world where technology is all weaponised against us. The humble, utilitarian rice cooker reminds me it doesn’t need to be so bad.
The one issue I’ve come across when evangelising them is that everyone *thinks* they have a ‘rice cooker’ because they have some appliance that says it cooks rice, like a pressure cooker or instant pot. But they are not the same.
