Generative AI will not and cannot, in any meaningful way, drive a general reduction of the number of working hours demanded of workers, both because the technology cannot serve that function and because capitalism does not incorporate labor-saving technology to reduce working hours.

If generative AI firms are obtaining the product of intellectual labor without remuneration and then regurgitating it for their own profit, they are definitionally stealing the product of others’ intellectual labor.
