Yeah, I guess the algo does go something like that, ha. Been a while since I bothered doing the algo we learn in elementary school. I'm just realizing now that I read your description, that this is pretty much how I've been doing it for a long time now, and I'd forgotten about the method we learn in school, which is slightly more deterministic, in looking to methodically narrow down the "guesses" by going down powers of 10 systematically. I sorta like your way more, since you intuitively use this algo when you don't have much feel for how to guess, but often you can narrow down closer.

Since I was paged, I suppose I'll weigh in with a little something extra...after I refresh my memory a bit on polynomial division algorithm.
