I can see why aesthetically you’d be put off by the game, I was very put off by the reveal myself, but gameplay wise it’s the most fun I’ve had with a video game since Super Mario 3D World and the most fun I’ve had with a fire emblem game since radiant dawn on the Wii. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I’m starting my 4th playthrough now and the fun still hasn’t started to wane. It’s not really like older fire emblem games, it’s still very much in the “broad skill system + reclassing + diverse unit development” paradigm that the series has been developing since the DS (and even a little bit prior with radiant dawn) and the engage system itself is essentially an overhauled version of three houses gambit system to make it good and fun. The biggest difference from nuFE (other than that it’s good and fun) is that the matchmaking/romance stuff has been heavily dialed back. It’s great to see a lot of the mechanics and ideas they’ve been putting in their games for the last 15 years have finally been put in one package where everything clicks.
