I just want to add that while this may seem contradictory to very specific justifications for doing the exact opposite in years past, that is astoundingly common for them to do.
Every time Apple speaks justification for any design decision, it is merely their justification du jour. They are not the arbiters of what is right and wrong. They are opinion-havers. And their opinions can be bad. Like this one.
