The EDPS publishes its first mapping report under its new competences within the AI Act.
As the authority designated to supervise AI systems used by EU institutions, the EDPS has published a preliminary mapping report on potential high-risk AI systems across the EU public administration.
Conducted in cooperation with the AI Act Correspondents Network, this voluntary mapping exercise provides an initial overview of the diversity of AI systems currently in use or planned by EUIs.
The report outlines:
✅ Challenges EUIs face when identifying high-risk AI systems
✅ Confirmation that no prohibited AI practices were declared;
✅ Areas where further guidance may be needed, including AI in the AFSJ and recruitment;
✅ Key takeaways from the mapping exercise that will inform the EDPS’ priorities as a market surveillance authority.
This report aims also at encouraging EUIs to build early inventories of their AI systems, supporting preparedness ahead of the application of the AI Act’s provisions on high-risk AI systems.
