It used to be the powerful could steer the American masses with a single narrative. Cronkite told all of us who to worry about, what to celebrate and what mattered.
*But people noticed it didn't make sense and alternate viewpoints emerged.*
Then the powerful realized they could corral the many into mostly two groups. Fox News emerged and was a rally point for the "other half" of the nation.
*But people noticed though it was a different flavor the nutrition label and ingredients list read the same.*
So then, over time, the powerful splintered the masses into dozens of polarized groups to fight each other. The women against the men. The black's against the whites. The rich against the poor. The millennials, the immigrants, the believers, the northerners, the educated, the patriots, the gays...
Maybe next, people will be waking up and joining the remnant of the few who have known all along that we really share more than we are different. Including a common enemy.
