Hopefully a proper fix would have less performance impact than a microcode/OS level workaround.
But at the same time, the folk theory is that a large part of Intel's (not sure about AMD) performance gains since at least Haswell have been only possible due to heuristics in speculative execurion, and replacing those heuristics with correct algorithms would negate the gains.
