with stuff like hajime no ippo, the commentator/narrator guy doing the play-by-play of the fights, and the internal monologue of the fighters, generally help you more enter the world they're in and the battle they're fighting, and what they need to do to overcome it versus all that's in the way
it's not as if i need to necessarily understand what's going on either, like with hikaru no go (although i play go now), where the terms elude me, but there is some general description or expression of how hopeless or difficult it'd be to overturn the situation to win a game
but most of the dialogue during the races feel very... simple. plus the training itself isn't particularly engaging either, like with this episode, where they kinda were told to just run and then we kinda just skip to the end of it, with little character interactions between the off-screen running training
it definitely acts more like a slice of life anime with racing on the side, where there's more focus prioritized on how winning or losing the race makes the racer and her friends feel, but the racing itself isn't as important as just, winning
even when (spoilers) suzuka loses, it's kinda because i wasn't racing with her that i felt slightly detached from the loss
i'd maybe write something like...
"My lungs can't keep up!" or "My calves are beginning to feel really tight," or something like... it's honestly kinda context-dependent, so one-off lines really won't show what i mean...
guess i need to script a race to show what i mean
