Australia’s High Court has ruled that the climate impact of coal burned overseas needs to be considered. In a landmark decision earlier this week the court ruled that the approval of a massive coalmine expansion in the Hunter Valley was invalid, because planners never considered the emissions from the coal that would be burned abroad. Retired science teacher Wendy Wales and her small local group fought the case for more than four years.
