Yeah. It is definitely how I do things in my head. But I still recommend and use standard long division when doing it by hand. It gives a nice formal way of handling arbitrary precision in the decimals.
The real trick, which I only realized as an adult but is actually taught in schools apparently, is to build a multiple of 0-9 x divsor table. It turns impossible looking problems with many divisor digits into a fairly easy problem.
Also I do recommend doing every day math by hand. The time it takes gives you time to understand. It is all to easy to take the very correct answer from the calculator and miss that it was the wrong question.
