I learned Split Horizon DNS during the fight against software patents 2002-05, when we ran a site where people could check who is behind which lobby organisation pretending to represent small to medium sized companies. The public internet would see innocent annotations, but when you visited from the IP range of the EU parliament or commission, you would see very different pages with far more information, pointing typically at Microsoft, Siemens, SAP et al being behind those organisations ;)
