Worker owned coops, networks of contractors and that guy that comes to fix your pipe when it bursts all have to deal with trust on a job by job basis. Each job has a high overhead of negotiation. Do I know you enough? can you afford me? can we build trust with reputation websites? Hey aren't you my sister can't I get discount? and etc.

It's good for flexibility, but it's really really inefficient in low trust societies too.
