I’ve said it a million times: “Solidarity is our best weapon.” And I’ll likely say it a million more. But it’s true.

It’s not just true. It’s beautiful.

It’s not just beautiful. It’s what gets us through the hardest of days, like a shoulder to cry on.

It’s not just a shoulder cry on. It’s what lifts us up again so we can see possibilities.

It’s not just possibilities. It’s an expanding circle of care that unfolds like a flower, reminding of the many seeds that we and others scattered long ago, never imagining what might grow in the barren soil of these times, or they would germinate at all.

It’s what happens when the seeming “worst” comes true—a daily occurrence under christofascism—and it feels like mountains might need to be moved to find the needed information/advice, moral support, and tangible aid, but then … after you reach out with a tentative ask to one friend, and they ask other friends, and friends think to reach out to you, and so do acquaintances, or folks you’ve only interacted with online, or people spread out across many imperiled geographies … you quickly find yourself amid a blossoming garden of solidarity. A garden that will bring sweetness to many who need it, and continue to spread more seeds.

We didn’t choose this authoritarian era. We dream beyond it; we always do.

But we don’t just dream. We work hard, voluntarily, even when it’s not convenient, to cultivate social relations of solidarity, which when we “weaponize” them through our lived practices against the wasteland of fascism, make for expansive bonds of love, which is another way of saying “life,” blessed life, sacred life.

Grateful to all who replied to my texts/DMs yesterday on behalf of a friend suddenly in need of extra solidarity—and replied not only with wisdom and insights but also concrete things to do, and/or that you and your friends/crews can do.
