"content": "Podium finish for the Giant Springtail!\n\nCongratulations to Team Velvet Worm for a hard-fought and well-deserved victory - making Ngãokeoke the 2025 New Zealand Bug of the Year!\n\nIt's brilliant to see a soil/deadwood invertebrate win the contest (they live alongside giant springtails!). Having two soil inverts in the top three winners is amazing awareness raising for soil biodiversity across the country and the world!\n\nThanks for all the support for #TeamGiantSpringtail, we'll be back to win another year (but maybe I'll take next year off, it was a lot of work). Nice to see my photos in the Guardian article on the contest too: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/feb/20/velvet-worm-new-zealand-bug-of-the-year-winner\n\nhttps://fliprock.files.fedi.monster/media_attachments/files/114/038/161/933/377/393/original/7fdf5652659a9223.png\nhttps://fliprock.files.fedi.monster/media_attachments/files/114/038/162/040/243/819/original/fb84f1b1934a3422.jpeg\nhttps://fliprock.files.fedi.monster/media_attachments/files/114/038/162/172/589/135/original/f5b7e819b4017162.png",
