I've been down that path before too. It seems that once we near the end of life and all the work we've done to achieve a meaningful retirement, the government always wants to take everything away. Best thing I have heard to do is to sell most property to the kids at a highly reduced cost, and live without any hard possessions. That way there is nothing for them to take.
