The Minster for Defence says we need to raise UK's defence budget to 5% of GDP (doubling it from its current target of 2.5%).
For comparison, the financial services sector (often seen as the UK's most successful economic sector & the one certainly privileged by successive Govts.) accounts for around 8% of GDP.
This would raise it above the US proportion (of around 3.5% GDP) & make the UK a security state - is that really we want?
