If you're looking for a job, here's a tip:

Employers want you desperate, but not in ways that might make you steal. So debt is bad, but student debt is good. They like to hear that you have family depending on you at home and that you don't own it. They want you to be spending as much of your paycheck as possible just on life maintenance. So play that sort of thing up in the interview.

Also, I have experimented with faking being a Christian and it got me a job in an emergency. Just drop a "I really pray I can get this job" or something like that, and they love it (assuming the boss is religious..)
