the only good ideas for grid scale batteries i've seen are artificial reservoirs you pump water into when demand is low then use to spin a turbine like a hydro plant when high. efficiency could probably be actually p ok
also the rust batteries seem kind of cool for smallish scale, don't know if they're practicable yet tho
