"Germans don't have to sell their companies to Chinese billionaires - they can say "Nein", and they have been outsourcing the factory work to other lower income EU nations and China for a decade or more."

I mean, of course no one is forced to sell their companies, yet some companies do get sold β€” best example of this is Kuka and many others too.

The takeover of Kuka was one of the largest overseas acquisitions by a Chinese firm and was driven by China's "Made in China 2025" policy. Despite the Chinese ownership, KUKA remained headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, with Midea guaranteeing the company would stay independent until 2023.

If I had told anyone at Kuka or in Germany that a Chinese company would ever take over Kuka, people would have sent me to a madhouse.

BMW and some others are perfect examples of "entshitification." Extremely expensive parts and very prone to failure.

And VW is also very problematic on many levels.
