It's a myth that women were confined to the kitchen to begin with. I don't know a single point in time when women were only in the kitchen. Or only in the home for that matter. It's an upper class thing which we mistake with every woman if anything, and even then those women were planning events and probably other things. It absolutely has nothing to do with this. At least in the west.
