I know it sucks to evacuate and everything involved with that, it's a major hassle, but given that Milton was flirting with being the third strongest hurricane in recorded history (a day prior to landfall), and given that hurricanes in the Gulf have had a history of over-performing intensity forecasts, especially in the final 36 hours or so prior to landfall, it made sense to take every single precaution. Better safe and annoyed than possibly dead.
