#ScribesAndMakers 2/20 The alpha male is a misconception perpetuated in popular media that our featured creator works against in her wolf books. What's a misconception that bothers you in popular media?
I don't think this counts as a misconception per se, but something I am so sick of in the action/adventure genre is the fake near-death of the protagonist right after the climax. In most mainstream media, it seems to happen every. time.
It always happens about five minutes before the end. The protag just pulled off some ridiculous, world-saving stunt, destroyed the baddies, but OH NO! he got caught in that crazy explosion! Is that his lifeless body in the smoldering wreckage? The protag will then stay 'dead' until we see every character tearfully realize how much they never appreciated them and then POOF! the heartbeat comes back, the protag coughs and sputters and is suddenly completely fine, just in time for the snappy, upbeat ending.
This is partly why I have almost no patience for movies anymore.
