Paul Fenwick on Nostr: In this age where everything is a subscription, let me remind you that you can start ...
In this age where everything is a subscription, let me remind you that you can start a subscription, and then *immediately* cancel it.
- You still get the full month/year of subscription benefits. After all, you've paid for them¹.
- Continuing the service now becomes a matter of consciously making a decision each time, rather than remembering to opt out.
- If it's a service you don't use frequently, you save during the time between your subscription lapsing and you next renewing, even if that's only a few days.
- If the service has some dark, evil process that makes unsubscribing hard, then you now know about it up-front.
- A surprisingly large number of businesses will offer you discounts, freebies, or other benefits in exchange for you not cancelling. You'd never see these otherwise.

¹ While I can't say this is universally true, it has been for every service I've used, in every jurisdiction I have lived.
