Bad solution. I'd be in the camp of that last point asking for a refund as well if i can't play with my friends when I could before.
Again, the solution isn't to fight cheaters, that would make them more powerful, but rather shadow grouping them with each other and tricking them into thinking they're playing the game normally, and do other tricks as well (forgot them, but some games had interesting tricks to deal with cheaters and it was funny x3)
