While I’m pleasantly surprised by ATF director Robert Cekada’s recent announcement that the ATF will no longer, on a nationwide level, enforce the National Firearms Act as pertains to the purchase, transfer, and possession of suppressors, short-barreled rifles and short-barreled shotguns, I’m also cynically aware that this was 1.) a carrot being offered by the Trump administration in advance of midterms in which the GOP are projected to suffer serious losses, and 2.) a preventative measure to make sure no one gets arrested and have the case find its way up the court system to the SCOTUS where it could potentially bring down the entirety of the NFA once and for all.
