i ran into an old guy (i.e., a contemporary) in the apartment entry. he said bonjour, as did i, but then he stopped and said more insistently BONJOUR so i stopped and said je dis bonjour (which prob’ly shoulda been j’ai dit bonjour) and he said something that i didn’t catch, pointing to his ear, so i smiled and tugged on my earlobe and said moi aussi, at which point we are ready to exchange emails and linkedins and everything, but carried on our ways instead, after mutual bonne journées.
