I learned a few things today.
A small group of well meaning protesters can garner all kinds of reactions from passing motorists.
The majority of the hand gestures were positive.
It was also a reminder that there are angry people who might be unpredictable wandering around too. A person next to me suggested that I should be prepared for the possibility of food being thrown at me. I hope not because I plan to keep showing up and I wouldn't like that.
I am old enough to remember the protests against the Vietnam War and the massive crowds to save the redwoods. I am not sure I understand why this moment doesn't seem to be achieving that level of engagement.
I appreciate the efforts of the organizers and hope to see more people on the sidewalk next protest day. I will be there for sure.
