USA is the same thing -- the old-style vets are retiring or dying and the new vets are in shiny expensive offices owned by people who want a big return on their investment. Whenever my Mom's cats pass away, that will be the end of us having pets.
The money to take care of them properly will not be there so any strays we find in the future will have to go to the shelter.
