thanks for chiming in!

As I responded in another thread here, I think I'm out.

I'm actually looking exactly for an author who lives up to Le Guin, and I agree the publishing industry will make that hard to find (Le Guin herself discusses how she intentionally bent her writing to fit in and be popular in a forward to a graphic novel adaptation of A Wizard of Earthsea, and that novel is not too kind to its singular female character, although the sequel is slightly better if still bad in that regard). I'm hoping the industry hasn't totally succeeded in stamping out three next generation of greats, especially with self-publishing options and just *so many* authors to choose from, I figure there have to be some recent gems out there that I've not heard of yet (Chambers and Newitz come close but fall short in some ways from what I'm looking for).

At least among graphic novels, which I've been devouring via my local library, there's a ton of cool stuff happening in the last decade, especially with queer and other marginalized authors/characters. I guess in part I'm hoping to find some echoes of that in the SFF novel or novella space too.
