The ship's captain was pretty patriarchy coded I suppose. "Let us all rally behind this one male hero, who is a born Leader" etc. It is kind of hilarious how he keeps trying to play the hero, and well... yeah. Something of a subversion!

It was also a bit sexist. Like oh no, the victim is a girl, oh no, how unexpected. And gets in a relationship with the protagonist, oh no. But only a bit! It was way better than (for instance) Ready Player One, or Stargate. I haven't read much fiction lately, so can't precisely say. I know scifi will never again reach the mastery of Asimov and LeGuin, because the publishing industry is so monopolized now, but The Expanse does push the limits set by those men.

Overall worth eh... reading, not too bad. Had some places I rolled my eyes, but it was pretty progressive for a science fiction novel. I kind of faded on the series, because the power creep was getting pretty bad. But not because of sexism or copaganda or anything. The OPA are really cool and tribal and anarchic.
