I’m admittedly naturally more aloof than most people and not a great friend (HUMA syndrome*), but if that were me and someone tried to pressure me into coming out while sick, when I was feeling better, I’d want to have a convo with that friend.

There’s the boundary issue, obviously — you declined on the basis of being symptomatic, not just a case of the yucks, as was wholly your prerogative either way — but I would also want to discuss where that came from. Does the person see me as someone who cancels a lot and they’re tired of it? Were they just really looking forward to seeing me and got clumsy in their disappointment? Did I leave them in the lurch for something to do? (It’s not clear whether this was a one-on-one dinner or a group.) Did they offer to reschedule? Or, you know, express sympathy that I’m ill and maybe ask if I needed anything or offer to hang out via Discord or whatever if they really missed me so much?
