Pardon my ranting, but I need some cathartic void screaming at the moment.
SO, I was on my way to school with my daughter today when my car started making the most horrible thumping noise. I am not a car person, but I took a look (obviously not a close one) and couldn't see the problem. So during my break I tried taking it to a local mechanic, and when he wasn't available, I took it to Pep Boys.
I explained in my mediocre Spanish that the car was making noise when on the road and if they could take a look. They said yes, we'll do a diagnostic and send you a quote. The quote never came. When I called them five hours later, they said my car had no oil (that was true) and they believed flushing the system could stop the noise. I had no cause to argue and just wanted my car fixed so I said sure (again no quote given)
When I finally got the car, they charged me $260 for the diagnostic, an oil filter, and the flush. I asked "but the car's not making noise anymore, right?" They said no. A mile down the road, with my kid in the car, the noise starts again. And it's BAD! I start to panic, thinking my car is going to fall apart. I turn around and take the back roads hearing this noise getting worse and worse and worrying if I'll even make it home. Finally I stop and try to figure what they hell happened. That's when I saw this:
