I think autistic folks are often *extremely* adept at reading certain social interactions, but we tend to make the subtext into text, which is when things get gnarly for us.
Translating *hidden meaning* into *directly communicated meaning* is often not welcomed, & is even considered by some to be extremely antisocial behavior. So people gaslight us & tell us how *wrong* we are.
