Over the past couple of years, I've learned something that I guess I already knew in theory: when your marriage breaks down you become drastically poorer¹.
Another thing I've learned is this: it's fucking expensive being poor(er). For example, I needed a new dishwasher. In the past, I would've bought the best, reasonably priced one. Instead I went for the very cheapest. And it's shit, so shit. And now I need to buy another one.
