I have never really understood marriage. As a legal entity it's dangerous in case of a breakup. It makes it expensive for both parties, As a religious concept it's utterly bogus since most couples have been living together before they get married.
I gather that Spanish ladies have the name thing sorted out though Maria Gonzaleez marries Giacomo Cassanova to become Maria Gonzalez del Cassanova so she can still get a passport as Maria Gonzalez.
