Most people don't want there to be a God... and it often sits at a subconscious level.
I find it interesting that being your own 'god' was the lie that humanity first bought into and broke everything.
I think when man finally achieves it (whatever that looks like)... that will usher in the end and the return of Christ. Ending on the theme it began on.
