About 20 years ago I was doing a class project of frog bioacoustics and the professor wanted us to cut fingers. I refused categorically because it had nothing to do with our research question, because it could potentially transmit diseases to the frogs and most importantly because I didn't want to cause suffering to the animals. Even with vertebrates, people refuse to care.
