Sharing it forward!

All of my book+zine projects are 100% labors of love as well as political interventions/inspiration. The “royalties” from any sales go back into anarchist projects, often publishing related. Yet in the case of my latest big edited anthology, “Constellations of Care: Anarcha-Feminism in Practice” (@plutopress, with gorgeous cover design by Crisis, bycrisis.com), those funds are redistributed specifically to anarcha-feminist care efforts—ones that embody the kinds of practices of communal care showcased in the book

So it is with great delight that I announce this second year of royalties’ recipient: Black Flag Herbal Clinic, a new project of @solidarity.apothecary. Black Flag, a free anarchist clinic offering herbal support to comrades across the world, will be receiving a modest amount—a bit shy of US$600—but here’s a sense of how it’ll be well used:

“[Black Flag] offers online one-to-one herbal consultations for comrades whose health has been eroded by organising, repression, trauma or the sheer endurance of surviving under capitalism. Too often, anarchist spaces reproduce the same neglect we’re fighting against. Collective energy goes into defending communities, confronting the state, and surviving daily precarity, while our own health quietly collapses. Burnout, chronic pain and emotional fatigue become normalised. The clinic was created as a refusal of that pattern – a rebellion against neglect and disposability culture.”

I hope you’ll get your hands on a copies of this book, including to build up next year’s fund! Mostly, I hope you’ll find your way to “Constellations of Care” because it’s filled with dozens of anarcha-feminist voices and art from various geographies, all sharing how they live out the ethics of a queered, feministic anarchism. They “walk the walk,” tenderly and fiercely, lovingly and militantly, quietly and sometimes loudly, forging pathways for others.

As a sweet aside, I originally picked two projects, based on ideas from the contributors. In “feministic” fashion, both of them wanted to give all the funds to the other one—mutual admiration! Turns out, one didn’t actually need money right now; hence Black Flag!
