Someone died recently whom I never liked. And the words that came to mind when I heard the news are the same words I keep coming back to when I think about this moment and the white folx I have spent decades trying to reach.
I am not celebrating. Celebration in the face of death causes pain to people who loved them, and I have no interest in that.
But I am also not pretending.
