Browser is just an OS running on top of another OS.
Web APIs implement nearly everything at the cost of introducing new attack vectors and increasing standards and code complexity.
What's the first program you [manually] launch after booting up your PC? I want to believe it's a terminal emulator, but usually no.
The difference from an OS is you can't choose between Windows, Linux + any software, OpenBSD + any software, and several other options. Every complete and working web browser implementation is owned by a corporate entity which, by the nature of an oligopoly, may dictate any rules and transform the web to make more profit.
Also, don't forget that CSRF and XSS is possible only because a browser has become a runtime for every single fucking thing without a proper isolation. It was partially "fixed" by enforcing a set of inconvenient rules.
Want to make development more efficient bring yet another layer of abstractions and heat up a CPU — yeah, for sure, use React, Vue, or whatever is modern and popular today…
Apps don't have to and should not be webapps. Please stop.
