I get that the premise of the movie is that the *world* economy has collapsed *and* the US has turned into a totalitarian hellscape.

Recent world events has clearly demonstrated that the US can turn into a totalitarian hellscape entirely independent of the rest of the world's economy collapsing.

I'm sure the whole *not being able to afford basic medication* is very relatable in the US. It's just not something most people have to worry about in the rest of the world's developed democracies.
